Nokia E70 - First impressions

Part of the Nokia ESeries, the Nokia E70 is based on Symbian OS v9.1. The E70 features a full messaging keyboard for fast and easy thumb typing as well as a large, high-resolution color screen for viewing emails and attachments. The E70 offers support for viewing and editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations as well as including a PDF viewer and Zip manager. Like the E60 and E61, the E70 supports a common set of applications like advanced voice and email. The E70 also incorporates the latest connectivity methods with fast data connections using WCDMA and WLAN technology, broadband data connectivity and compatibility with push email solutions. A choice of push email solutions are available as well as a native email client. The E70 offers up to 75MB of built-in memory, a mini-SD for additional storage and supports hotswap. In addition it incorporates a 2.0 megapixel camera as well as improved security.

Two versions of the Nokia E70 will be available - one optimized for mobile networks in Europe and Asia (GSM900/1800/1900/WCDMA 2100) and one optimized for mobile networks in the Americas (GSM850/1800/1900), yet both versions are able to roam in GSM networks across regions.

The Eseries phones allow IT departments to manage security settings, corporate applications and data effectively. Remote Device Management based on OMA DM gives a company IT manager the ability remotely to control and protect corporate information on the device as well as being able to configure devices via device wipe, device lock or task management, application management and customization.

Companies deploying an Avaya or Cisco IP PBX can connect the Eseries phones directly to their corporate phone networks, enabling functions employees have come to expect from a corporate network enabling functions such as four-digit dialling and assisted call answering.
